INSTALLING POWERSURVEY ====================== 1. Unzip the PowerSurvey distribution file into a temporary directory using PKUNZIP with the "-d" option to recreate subdirectories. 2. Read this document, and especially ensure that you understand and accept the terms of the PowerSurvey copyright notice which follows. 3. Click on File/Run in the Windows Program Manager. 4. Type "\DIRNAME\INSTALL" at the prompt and click OK. 5. Follow the instructions onscreen. 6. Delete the temorary directory if desired to save space. POWERSURVEY COPYRIGHT NOTICE ============================ This is a fully functional evaluation copy of PowerSurvey, distributed as shareware and not licenced for commercial use. It can freely be copied and distributed, but only in its entirety as a zipped file, and only for evaluation purposes. For commercial use it must be registered and licenced. With registration you will receive the latest version of the software on floppy disk for both PC and Psion, a comprehensive printed manual, and one year free technical support via E-mail. Included in the registered version are several features not provided in the evaluation version. Registered users will be notified of upgrade releases. An order form is reproduced at the end of this document to enable you to register your copy of PowerSurvey. You can also choose to subscribe to our technical support and upgrade service. This will give you premium access to our technical staff and resource, plus automatic issue of all software upgrades. Details will be sent with your registration pack. WHAT DOES POWERSURVEY DO? ========================= With PowerSurvey on a PC, a non-programmer can design questionnaires for gathering survey data on Psion handheld computers in exactly the format desired. Almost any task for which you would normally create a paper survey form is a suitable application for PowerSurvey. Question types available include time, date, number, text, formatted string, yes/no, multi-choice and barcode read. Questionnaires can be sectionalised, and answering mode can be sequential or random. Answers to multi-choice questions can be built up from standard descriptions imported as a text file and a full schedule of rates can be included if there is a requirement to apply costings to information recorded. The collected information can be transmitted back to the PC as comma separated ASCII files, for import into virtually any database, spreadsheet or other software. PowerSurvey eliminates the manual retyping and verification of information gathered on paper, together with all the errors which normally creep in at this stage. With this evaluation version you can create survey designs, download them to the Psion emulator (a virtual Psion handheld/palmtop computer on the PC) and collect information exactly as you would on a real Psion computer. You can receive the collected data back to the PC for trial importing into your chosen database, spreadsheet or other data analysis software, and generally test the entire functionality of PowerSurvey. Until you register, you will NOT be able to use PowerSurvey on a real Psion computer. Combination 'unit' defaults to last entry (1st time only). Cut, Copy, & Paste accelerator keys removed. Descriptions editor improved. Invalid combinations now included in report. v1.0c Under certain circumstances multi-choice questions could become bereaved of their combinations. This has now been corrected. On Database report Yes/No questions recommended a maximum field width of 9. This has now been changed to 3. Hierarchical question numbering now included in reports. Summary report now includes survey parameters and ancillary questions. Repetition of last line of page 1 to top of 2nd page removed from all previewed and printed reports. 'Translation' group and 'send descriptions' check box removed from Communications/Settings dialog. v1.0d HC Program packs can now be updated from PowerSurvey on the PC. v1.0e Improved binary file (survey.bin) generation of large sections. v1.0f Corrected translation error that occurs when receiving data from multi-choice questions with multiple lists and user text enabled, when user text has been entered on anything but the last list. v1.0g Jumps lists (multi-choice & jump questions) now have the current question position denoted by an asterisk. Psion & Psion Emulator: v1.0 First release. v1.0a Ancillary jumps fixed. v1.0b Memory compaction improved, allowing larger sections.
